Our practice offers many specialised rehabilitation techniques, that our team, with their years of experience and expertise in physiotherapy, have treated successfully.

Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy specialises in the prevention, rehabilitation and treatment of clients with disorders and conditions of the heart and lungs.

For many sufferers, the simple act of breathing becomes a constant worry so we have specialised postural drainage beds and physiotherapy techniques to clear your airways and make breathing easier.

Common Cardiorespiratory conditions include:

  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Bronchitis
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Constructive Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD)
  • Asthma
  • Emphysema
  • Respiratory infections e.g. Pneumonia
  • Angina
  • Hypertension
  • Heart Attack (MI)

Treatment techniques may include:

  • Postural drainage – we have state of the art beds to allow gravity to aid the clearance of secretions, which we combine with manual techniques
  • Manual techniques such as percussion and vibration, with specialised controlled breathing techniques
  • Therapeutic exercises
  • Education on how to best manage your condition.

Cardiorespiratory physiotherapy can be used at all stages of disease – from acute episodes through to chronic illness. Vestibular Physiotherapy is a specialised form of physiotherapy focused on alleviating the primary and secondary issues caused by vestibular disorders.

People living with vestibular disorders often experience dizziness, vertigo, balance-related problems, or problems with visual disturbances, falls and fall-related injuries.

Secondary issues may include nausea and/or vomiting and experiencing difficulties with concentration and fatigue.

Common vestibular disorders include:

  • Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
  • Vestibular Neuronitis
  • Meniere’s Disease

Treatment techniques may include:

  • A comprehensive clinical examination to identify the main problems related to the vestibular disorder.

Based on this assessment your treatment strategy will be tailored to your specific needs, aimed at improving your strength, coordination and function with the ultimate goal of improving your quality of life and returning to meaningful activities.

Neurological physiotherapy focuses on the treatment of movement disorders that have resulted from injury or disease of the brain, spinal cord and the broader neuromuscular system.

The team at Oceanside Physio have experience in working with clients presenting with a broad range of issues ranging from sporting injuries, to brain or spinal cord damage resulting from trauma or neurological disease.

Neurological conditions we commonly help with include:

  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Stroke or Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA) & Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) or mini-stroke
  • Spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries
  • Neuropathy

People living with a neurological disorder may present with a number of different issues with movement. This may include difficulties with arm and hand function, balance, walking, posture and persistent pain.

Treatment techniques may include:

  • To enable you to maximise your participation in your everyday life, your physiotherapist will tailor an approach to treatment based on your individual preferences and goals.
  • In some cases we may recommend exercises based on the PD Warrior program: a highly successful and recognised method of slowing down the progression of idiopathic Parkinson’s Disease through specific types of exercise.
  • A combination of Pilates techniques, the principles of neuroplasticity and functional training to enable you to regain control over your body and return to meaningful activities.

Oceanside Physio are proud to be the only physiotherapy practice on the Sunshine Coast (that we are aware of) to have available in our rehabilitation studio the ‘CoreAlign’ – a specialist piece of Pilates equipment designed to facilitate musculoskeletal rehabilitation, improve posture and balance, re-establish healthy movement patterns, and increase functional movement.

The CoreAlign, developed by Jonathan Hoffman, a Physiotherapist from Tel Aviv, Israel emphasises the use of upright exercises and has been shown to be effective for people living with neurological conditions, challenging the entire body as an integrated system.

At Oceanside Physio we know that growing older can lead to the development of many health issues and our team are highly-trained and qualified to treat and manage the physical function limitations associated with the most common of these conditions.
